4th of July Committee

Founded in the early '50's the 4th of July committee meets five times a year to plan the annual 4th celebration.  The meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 P.M.  The success of Wakefield's 4th celebration has come about thanks to dedicated people, planning, and support from the community.  Please, come and join us and be part of the celebration or our freedom.  For more information call Susan Beckman at 906-224-2222

Fireworks Committee:

Each year on July 3rd, a great group of volunteers headed by John Granto (chairman) put on a spectacular fireworks display.  John and his crew have been running the fireworks display for over 25yrs.  Organized in 1982 by the VFW, the display brings thousands of spectators to watch this "top notch" show.  John and his crew begin assembling the pieces of the project 4 weeks early.  The process has been refined so that each volunteer has a specific role. 

The budget for the display continues to grow every year, topping $16,500 this year.  This money is raised by various fund raisers such as the annual gun banquet held each October, and the "Town Picnic" held July 3rd.  The town picnic has something for everyone: A food tent, beer and soda, music, games for kids and adults, lake races, home run derby, followed by fireworks and a bonfire.

Donations can also be sent to the Fireworks Committee.  Any amount is appreciated and will be put to good use.  Any monies left from a previous year are applied to the following years budget.  The fireworks are purchased from Mad Bombee Fireworks, Kimberly, IN.
